FBA vs. FBM Concentration shows whether the listing is dominated by FBA sellers (Fulfilled by Amazon), FBM sellers (Fulfilled by Merchant), or a mix of both. This helps you decide which fulfillment method to use.
What It Measures
This metric analyzes which fulfillment method dominates Buy Box wins on the listing. It looks at Buy Box winner composition by fulfillment type, the price difference between FBA and FBM offers, and availability percentages.
Note: this measures Buy Box fulfillment dominance, not total seller composition. An FBM-dominated Buy Box may indicate an FBA competitive advantage — winning the Buy Box with FBA when current winners use FBM.
Why It Matters for Resellers
Your fulfillment method affects your ability to win the buy box:
- FBA listings — Amazon favors FBA for buy box eligibility. If most sellers use FBA, you should too, or you will be at a disadvantage.
- FBM listings — If most sellers are FBM, entering with FBA can give you a competitive edge since Amazon prefers FBA for buy box rotation.
- Mixed listings — Both methods are viable. Your choice should be based on your cost structure and logistics capabilities.
How We Calculate It
- We analyze the offer data to determine each seller's fulfillment method (FBA or FBM).
- We calculate availability percentages — how often FBA and FBM sellers have been in stock.
- We check the price difference between FBA and FBM offers and whether it is widening or narrowing.
- When buy box data is available, we calculate the buy box win rate for each fulfillment type.
- We classify the listing based on which fulfillment type dominates the competitive landscape.
How to Read the Results
| Classification | What It Means | |---------------|---------------| | Mostly FBA sellers | Most sellers use FBA. To compete effectively, you should likely use FBA as well, since Amazon favors FBA for buy box rotation. | | Mostly FBM sellers | Most sellers use FBM. You may be able to win the buy box more easily with FBA, since Amazon tends to prefer it. | | Mix of FBA and FBM | The listing has a mix of both fulfillment methods. Both are viable strategies. | | Unknown | Fulfillment data is not available for this listing. |
Limitations & Caveats
- Requires detailed offer data from a full product lookup. Screened products will not have this metric.
- FBA preference varies by category. Amazon's buy box algorithm weighs many factors beyond fulfillment method, including price, seller metrics, and shipping speed.
- Price differences between FBA and FBM may reflect different product conditions or seller strategies, not just fulfillment costs.
- The dominant fulfillment method can shift as sellers change their strategies or as new sellers enter. This metric shows the current state.
